Welcome

Welcome to the Lancaster City Quiz League website.

The Lancaster City Quiz League started in 1969 and currently comprises 26 teams.

They are divided into 3 divisions and play each other on a "home and away" basis. Matches are held at 8.30 each Monday night from September to May.

2025-26 Pairs Quiz

The competition will be held on Monday, 15th December 2025 at Lancaster Railway Club. Start time 8pm.

Pairs may comprise members of the same LCQL team or of different teams. In the latter case, if the LCQL teams are in different divisions the pair will play for the prize in the higher division. Where an individual arrives with no partner, he/she may (if possible) form a pair with another player in the same position. Equally, if desired, a LCQL player may partner a person who does not play in the League.

There will be two book tokens for the highest scoring pair in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Additionally, the Alan Peel Trophy will be awarded to the highest scoring of the 3 divisional winners.

The quiz shall be set by last season's winners of the Alan Peel Trophy. It shall consist of 75 questions in 3 sessions.

Question Setting Sub-Committee

At the 2025 AGM in June the following motion was passed: -
“I would like to propose the League look again at question setting, with a view to considering another source for questions for the 26/27 season”.

This envisaged the Committee setting up a sub-committee to investigate all relevant aspects of the matter. It was agreed that non-committee members should be invited to serve on it. It would reveal its findings at the 2026 AGM, in time for the 2026-27 season.

If you would like to be considered to serve on this sub-committee, please email the Chair accordingly before Wednesday, 3rd December 2025. His email is – chair@lanccityquizleague.co.uk

Thank you.
